Luis Calvillo is an iOS developer, entrepreneur, and co-founder of WhattaEat, a social food discovery platform. He previously founded ShredSpots, a skateboarding discovery app that reached over 100,000 downloads and was acquired in 2021.
Below are selected apps and projects built by Luis Calvillo, ranging from startups to experimental iOS applications.
Featured Apps
WhattaEat
A social food discovery platform that helps people decide what to eat through short-form food videos.
Co-founded with Jose Acevedo, WhattaEat combines authentic short videos from real diners, map-based discovery, and community recommendations. Instead of scrolling through old reviews and static photos, users watch real videos of dishes to quickly find great restaurants and hidden gems nearby.
As CTO, I lead the iOS product, video feed experience, map-based discovery system, location pages, creator upload flow, and the early recommendation/taste profile system.
After my exit with ShredSpots, I went all-in on WhattaEat as Co-Founder and CTO. We built WhattaEat to focus on visual, social, and location-based discovery. It’s currently my main project and the one I’m most excited about.

ShredSpots
A community-driven skate spot discovery app that lets skaters find, share, and map the best street spots and skateparks worldwide.
I built and launched ShredSpots in 2019 as my first major solo project. It grew organically to over 100,000 downloads and was acquired in December 2021 by FreeTo LLC, marking my first successful exit as a founder.
This experience taught me a lot about building in public, community growth, and what it really takes to take an app from idea to acquisition.

ShredCam
A custom camera app built specifically for skateboarders.
I created ShredCam because I was tired of filling up my phone with dozens of mediocre skate clips. The core idea is simple but powerful: after every recording, the app immediately asks Save or Delete? Helping skaters keep only the good takes and free up storage.
This was the first time I worked on a camera app. It’s fully designed and developed by me, with a clean, fast interface made for filming on the street or at the park.

Swift, SwiftUI, AVFoundation

TacoSpots
I built TacoSpots because I got tired of opening Yelp and scrolling through hundreds of results just to find good tacos. Using the Yelp Fusion API, I designed and developed a clean iOS app that shows nearby taco spots with ratings, distance, and photos. All in a fast, straightforward interface.
A fun, simple app to help you find the best tacos nearby.

Swift, Core Location, MapKit, RESTful API

🥽 Vision Pro Apps

ScribbleSpace: Finger Drawing
A fun, intuitive finger-drawing app for Apple Vision Pro.
ScribbleSpace lets you unleash your creativity by drawing freely in 3D space using just your fingers. No controllers needed. Just natural hand gestures to sketch, doodle, write, or create floating art wherever you look.
This was one of my early visionOS projects focused on making spatial drawing feel simple, responsive, and actually enjoyable. It was a great experiment in hand tracking, spatial interactions, and building delightful experiences for mixed reality.
Technologies:
SwiftUI, PencilKit, VisionOS

StickOns: Sticky Notes
My first Vision Pro app. An immersive sticky notes experience for Apple’s Vision Pro.
I built StickOns to bring the classic joy of physical sticky notes into spatial computing. With StickOns, you can place, resize, and organize colorful sticky notes directly in your real-world environment. Whether you’re brainstorming ideas at your desk, planning your day, or leaving reminders floating around your living room.
This was my first dive into visionOS development. It was an exciting (and sometimes challenging) project that taught me a lot about spatial design, hand tracking, and creating natural interactions in mixed reality.

🎮 Mobile Games
Big Pixel Run
A hyper-casual retro-inspired endless runner.
In Big Pixel Run, you dash through colorful pixel worlds, avoid obstacles and collect power-ups to chase the highest score. With simple one-tap controls and chill lo-fi vibes, it’s perfect for quick sessions or trying to beat your personal best.
I created the entire game myself: designing all the pixel art in Adobe Illustrator and building the full app using Swift and SpriteKit. It was a fun deep dive into game development, including implementing rewarded video ads and in-app purchases.
This project helped me sharpen my skills in game physics, performance optimization, and creating addictive, polished gameplay loops.

SpriteKit, Rewarded Video Ads, Swift, In-App Purchase

End All Zombies
A fast-paced zombie shooter.
Defend yourself against endless waves of zombies in a post-apocalyptic world. Survive as long as possible by shooting the different zombies and managing your limited ammo in this intense one-finger shooter.
I built the entire game from scratch: coding it in Swift with SpriteKit, designing all the vector graphics in Adobe Illustrator, and even composing the soundtrack using GarageBand. It was a fun and challenging solo project that pushed my game development skills further.

My Product Journey
These projects represent my journey from solo iOS developer to startup founder. Across skateboarding apps, food discovery, Vision Pro experiments, and mobile games, I’ve focused on building apps that combine simple user experiences with real communities.
Today, my main focus is WhattaEat, where I’m building a short-form video and map-based food discovery platform for local restaurants, food creators, and diners.
